It's fall in MA, and soon we will be seeing the changing colors of the leaves and feeling the weather get a lot cooler. After this summer, you may have discerned that your vehicle has lost its glow. You're not seeing wrong because the summer tends to take a toll on many cars, which is why fall maintenance is so essential to restore your vehicle. Now is the ideal time to perform a complete vehicle inspection to identify any minor problems and get your vehicle in tip-top shape for the Massachusetts winters. Here are suggestions on the essential fall maintenance items (and tips) that you'll want to follow before we reach the cold season:

Windshield Wiper Blades, Defrosters, and Heating System - With the expected rainfall and snow to come within the next several months, it's vital to have your windshield wipers replaced beforehand. The summer heat could've dried out your wipers and make them useless. While you're having those exchanged, ask your technician to check your HVAC system to ensure your heat and defrosting functions are working. You'll need those for comfortability and visibility in the fall and winter too!

Tires - You'll need a good set of tires on your vehicle to make it through the falls and winters of MA. Your wheels are the only things between you and the road, and they help stabilize and control your ride. Worn-down tires can make it challenging to gain traction with the road, which can be very dangerous.

Gather an Emergency Kit - This isn't directly associated with maintenance, but you should still pack an emergency kit just in case of any breakdowns. You should include things such as water, non-perishable snacks, spare tire and tire changing equipment, flashlights, jackets, blankets, emergency numbers, first aid kit, flares, batteries, and phone chargers in this kit.

Battery - A vehicle battery may be running fine in the late summer and early autumn but may fail when it gets colder. As a result, you should have your battery tested by a professional. The battery connections should be fastened, clean, and free of corrosion.

These are just a few of many essential items to check off your list when it comes to preparing your car for the upcoming season.
